We believe that knowledge about our cultural history and roots is the key to our sustainable existence in the future. The wisdom and the spirit of the past generations are enclosed in the folk songs and music, fairy tales, traditional crafts, folk costumes, etc. It is little use if these are preserved as lifeless artifacts in a museum. Our cultural heritage should have a place in our lives, enriching them and bringing a sense of meaning and continuum to them. With such thoughts in mind, we decided to start EthnoSpace.

EthnoSpace is an internet platform for sharing living cultural heritage.

EthnoSpace provides easy-to-use online platform where contributors can share digital materials from folkloristic work, music recordings, videos, scores, pictures of folk costumes, of interesting people and places or just stories and memories.

The goal of EthnoSpace is to bring together folklore enthusiasts from all over the world.

We will work together towards creating a comprehensive digital library of examples of living cultural heritage from around the world. Those examples can be t.ex. recordings of folk songs and instrumental music, video footage of traditional celebrations or crafts, photos of folk costumes, fairy tales, stories, memories…

We launch EthnoSpace by sharing material from the folkloristic work of Nina Grantcharova and György Stuber in the Rhodope mountains of Southern Bulgaria. Our hope is that their example will soon be followed by other professional or amateur folklorists.
